Education, culture, science and arts post Brexit – have your say

The EU-UK Culture and Education Series Community, run by the British Council is considering the key issues for education, culture, science and arts in the Brexit negotiations. You can join the group to help come up with workable solutions that aim to strengthen relationships, overcome anticipated challenges and help foster stronger co-operation across the education, culture, science and arts sectors in Europe after Brexit.  

STEAM news

The calls for STEAM continue to gain force: Camden Council has published its STEAM Commission report. The Camden Council Commission has developed eight recommendations covering school governance, STEAM ambassadors and champions, creating a STEAM hub and work linked to employability and businesses. A pledge for children’s arts

Action for Children’s Arts has been reaching out to children and young people across the country, asking them to send in their thoughts on how MPs should pledge to protect children’s arts for the future. They have created a pledge which they are asking MPs to sign up for. Read more on their website.

New HLF Heritage ambassadors

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has appointed 17 young people to be Heritage Ambassadors. The Heritage Ambassadors will help to allocate National Lottery funds to young people’s heritage projects, including the new Kick the Dust programme, and will work with HLF to promote ways of involving more under-25s in heritage. New Arts Council Self Evaluation toolkit

The new Arts Council England (ACE) self evaluation toolkit is online and covers a series of topics under the headings of quality and impact, people development, process development and business development.  There are key questions to ask yourself and links to tools and activities to help you answer them. You can complete online or download the toolkit. Any responses in the online toolkit remain private, ACE will only record how many people use the toolkit and will not be able to see your responses.

Teacher in the East of England? Apply to take part in Leaders for Impact

Leaders for Impact is a leadership development programme for teachers in a position to influence whole school approaches to arts and cultural learning. Run by the Royal Opera House Bridge, the pilot programme will give 12 committed and experienced professionals more than 12 days of tailored leadership development training, inspiration and support. Become an Enterprise Advisor

The Careers and Enterprise company is on the look out for creative industries volunteers to to inspire young people and improve their chances of getting a job. Volunteers work with local schools to support their careers advice and create a bridge between business and education. Read more and sign up on the Careers and Enterprise website. 

Towards Cultural Democracy

King’s College London has published Towards Cultural Democracy which, among other things, calls for young people to be supported to develop their cultural capabilities, giving them the freedom and confidence to create their own culture. It highlights the fact that large sections of the UK population do not access publically funded arts and culture and suggests new ways of trying to change this.
