Arts at home

25 March 2020

We hope you and your families are safe and well as the UK enters at least three weeks of lockdown.

Our social feeds are full of wonderful and creative arts activities that families are doing together at home. Actors are sharing performances online and children are putting up artworks in their windows to cheer up neighbours.

In the midst of all the uncertainty colleagues have been sharing brilliant free arts resources on many of the networks we are part of and we wanted to signpost to some of these.

The arts subject specialist associations are all good sources of information and resources and several have already curated collections of resources:

  • NSEAD (National Society for Education in Art and Design): #NSEADcreate Resources for remote learning - links to reviewed art educator websites. Listed by age group. For teachers, parents & carers, children & young people.
  • One Dance UK: Free resources, tasks and more - a series of online resources, videos and task ideas that can be used to support home learning in dance for all ages.
  • Music Mark (one of the two subject associations for music): Home Learning Resources - links to resources from a range of the association's partners - more resources being added weekly.
  • National Drama is working this week to vet resources and will be sharing them on their website.

Our mission

The CLA Strategy Group has been discussing how best we can fulfil our mission to champion children’s right to arts and culture in a time of school closures and mass home schooling. Over the coming weeks the CLA's focus will be on how we can best ensure all families have access to resources and materials so that the arts can be really valuable to them right now.
