20 August 2010 Policy and practice round-up: review of arms-length bodies, ‘free schools’, Arts Council Consultation findings, CASE publication, Ed Vaizey and The Big Link Up Last month the review of DCMS arms-length bodies announced that 55 non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs) are set to be merged, abolished or streamlined. This included the abolishment of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) and the UK Film Council. This will have a huge impact on work across the sector, and very significant implications for cultural learning.

In the last e-news, we reported how cuts to cultural and education budgets are impacting on cultural learning across the country. Whilst we are yet to understand the full impact of these cuts, many are contemplating how to take positive steps forward with cultural learning work in less well-funded times.
